Female Founders Series: Alyson Araque
After 16 years as a Buyer for stores like Saks Fifth Avenue and TJX, I saw a void in the market for women who desire quality product to wear to work. Our mission is to provide tailored professional clothes to the many shapes and sizes of women today using best in class fabric, fit technology, and a one on one user experience. That is how Q Sartorial was born.
What is your favorite part of having your own business?
Seeing a client’s face when they fall in love with my product!
What are the struggles of having your own business?
I’m a solo entrepreneur and it can be lonely out there. I have to remind myself that asking for help is not showing weakness, it’s essential.
What is your business philosophy?
Loyalty can only be built on a foundation of trust, honesty, and transparency.
When did you take the leap to entrepreneurship?
In June of 2019 I left my corporate career to create my brand full time. I was working on a project about two months prior to leaving and I felt like I was in Groundhogs Day. I’ve done this project before...so many times. It was the right time for me professionally and personally to take the idea I’ve had for so many years to market.
Always ask for more than you think you are worth. Even knowing this, I’m still a victim of not fully realizing my value when pricing my business, my product, my worth. If you think you are worth X...increase it by 20-30%.
Who inspired you to start your own business?
There are too many people to name. I have learned so much from some of the best leaders in the industry as well as been inspired by small business owners I have met along the way.
What are some of your passions and hobbies outside of your business?
I love retail so much that in addition to Q Sartorial I’m also a retail consultant. It keeps me fully immersed and educated in the industry. Fitness, especially running and taking my favorite class Tonehouse, keeps me focused and clears my head. Last but certainly not least, I love spending time with friends, family and my sidekick dog, Betty White.
What are your goals for you and your business? Where are you headed and do you have anything exciting coming up?
Compliments of Covid, I had to make some shifts in my strategy and we are set to relaunch in September. Exciting news is we are launching Made to Measure programs for women AND men using a 3D body scan technology to capture the customer's measurements digitally.
As a female entrepreneur, are there any resources, tools, or community you'd like to see more readily available? Or do you feel like you have a lot of options at your disposal?
I’ve been fortunate to be a part of communities such as The Wing, IFundWomen, and GirlBoss. The resources I wish I had more of is the logistical side of business such as legal guidance and accounting.
What is your favorite food?
Where is your favorite place you've traveled to?
Peru-Machu Picchu was a dream come true
Mountains or Ocean?
Depends what time of year it is!
What is your favorite movie or tv show?
What is your favorite coffee shop?
Share a fun or interesting fact about yourself that people might not know:
I have a slight obsession with the Golden Girls. My goal is to have 4 King Charles Cavaliers all named after the actors. I already have Betty White! Next will be Rue McClanahan.
